Delfield manufactures and markets a complete line of foodservice equipment for restaurants, hotels and institutions (including prep tables, undercounter/worktop refrigeration, refrigerated equipment stands, blast chillers/freezers and mobile serving lines) and specializes in custom and reach-in refrigeration. This position is responsible for the research, development, and testing activities with regard to the performance, design, compliance and manufacturability of refrigerated commercial food service products. Responsibilities include managing the Test and Prototype facilities and associated personnel. Reporting directly to the Manager of Engineering, this position is based in Covington, TN.Essential Job Functions• Defines, develops, organizes, supervises and coordinates the schedules and projects of the department. Schedules people and activities in accordance with organizational priorities. Controls research expenditures within approved limits. Coordinates research activities with work occurring in other departments, including marketing, engineering development and production.• Hires, retains, motivates, challenges, develops and mentors research staff to provide a center of excellence of research expertise for the organization and personal growth for the employee. Sets and communicates clear priorities, standards and expectations.• Understands product functional and customer requirements. Develops testing standards to verify product meets requirements and sets appropriate specifications to ensure product reliability and manufacturability. Conducts testing of new products and investigates customer complaints on existing products.• Reviews and evaluates research and development protocols, results and conclusions. Ensures that all research and development activities are conducted under appropriate standards for completeness, accuracy and documentation to conform to industry expectations for safety and compliance. Makes recommendations for refrigeration system changes based upon testing analysis.• Ensures proper calibration and maintenance of lab facilities and equipment.• Provides refrigeration system design expertise in the product development and support processes.• Establishes and maintains compliance of products and facilities with appropriate agencies• Advises and consults with Quality and Manufacturing to establish best practices in refrigeration system installation and testing.• Utilizes computer-based tools to accomplish to above functions in an efficient manner.• Provides training in areas of expertise.• Performs job duties in accordance with Manitowoc Code of Ethics to ensure the highest ethical dealings with employees, management and vendors.• The R & D Manager must have good verbal and written communications skills and be able to function as part of multiple teams in a fast paced and multi-task environment.Job Requirements/Working Conditions• Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering and at least 5 years’ experience in the designing and testing of refrigeration systems required.• CFD competence is highly desired.• Thorough knowledge of refrigeration theory and design• Ability to review, understand and interpret large volumes of detailed test data• Experience with industry standards, certification requirements and testing methods including UL, UL DAP, CSA, NSF, Energy Star, etc.• Project management skills and time-line management• Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills• Strong analytical aptitude• Strong results orientation and initiative• Continuous improvement focusJ2W:CB2J2W:MON2EEO STATEMENTThe Manitowoc Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
