Details: Job Summary and MissionThis job contributes to Starbucks success by being a senior member of SQL Server DBA team in the Platform Engineering organization to design and implement mission-critical applications and databases.  Drive technical innovations.  Enhance system management, monitoring, and automation.  Work with team lead to enforce and improve technical standards, security standards, and configuration management.  Collaborate with cross functional teams to design and gather business requirements for large scale projects.  Provide level-3 production support.  Assist and mentor other database administrators. Model and act in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.Summary of Key ResponsibilitiesProvide project and level-3 production supportDesign and implement database technical solutions to support assigned projects; responsible for delivering all DBA tasks on time and within budget.  Gather and evaluate technical requirements. Install and configure databases and related application components like Report Services, Integration Services, and Analysis Services.  Engineer availability and recovery technologies to meet business requirements. Provide third level escalation support of Starbucks SQL Server databases.  Responsible for troubleshooting and issue resolution.  Responsible for performance investigation and tuning.  Coordinate with users and other support teams and lead root cause analysis of high severity issues.Collaborate with the Operations DBA team to improve SQL Server operations including system stability and performance, backups and restores, monitoring, and long term capacity planning. Document sustainment tasks and transition operational support duties to Operations. Collaborate with cross functional teams to design and implement mission critical systems.Innovate best of class solutionsKeep current with latest technology in SQL Server as well as related technologies such as storage, server, virtualization, network and applications. Look for opportunities to improve ROI in organic growth expenditure. Drive virtualization of database environments.Introduce new and innovative high availability and replication solutions.Introduce technologies to support large scale database systems.Anticipate directional changes in technology and lead the team to adopt changes.Evangelize new SQL Server technology to broader Starbucks IT community.Identify potential integration of different features in database, server, virtualization, and storage that can meet demanding business requirements. Conduct proof-of-concept to validate designs.Strive for operational excellenceDrive continual improvement of deliverables and processes.  Challenge the team to standardize in every area of operation.  Be responsible to ensure SOX and PCI compliance.Push for more efficiency in all areas of team operations such as provisioning automation and proactive and predictive monitoring.  Develop systematic performance troubleshooting methodology and drive for its adoption by all team members. Lead and Mentor OthersCoach and mentor other more junior team members.
